Short-Staffed Tigers Come Back in 5-2 Win Over Broncos

Medicine Hat, AB - With nine forwards in the line-up, the Medicine Hat Tigers rallied after being down 2-0 to rattle off five straight goals in part of a 5-2 victory over the Swift Current Broncos Tuesday night.

In the first period the Tigers would give up the opening mark from the Broncos at 9:20. Off a Dawson Gerwing skate would make it 1-0 Swift Current. Then on a Broncos power play Clarke Caswell would fire through his 13th of the season at 11:39 to push the Broncos lead to 2-0. Medicine Hat would respond in the late stages of the first as Hunter St.Martin (Edmonton, AB) would finish off a 2-on-1 with Shane Smith (Cessford, AB) at 15:33 to cut the Broncos lead to 2-1. Despite chances to tie on the stick of Gavin McKenna (Whitehorse, YT) would be denied by Reid Dyck on two different instances on the same shift. Keeping the Broncos lead to 2-1 heading to the 2nd period.

The second period continued to be the strongest period for the Tigers this season, as St.Martin at 3:06 would score his 2nd straight goal from McKenna & Oasiz Wiesblatt to tie things up at 2-2. Then the Tigers would go to the power play at 10:36 on a slash from goaltender Reid Dyck on Oasiz Wiesblatt and the 17th of the season for the 04 ‚¬Â² born forward would be beneficial off a Bronco stick just eight seconds into the man-advantage would give the Tigers their first lead of the night. McKenna would notch his second primary assist of the night and Reid Andresen (Saskatoon, SK) would tally his first point of the night. Exactly five minutes later, it would be Gavin McKenna's third point of the night and 17th of the season shelfing a shot in tight past Dyck at 15:44 to give the Tigers a 4-2 lead. Captain Tyler MacKenzie (Red Deer, AB) & Josh Van Mulligen (Medicine Hat, AB) would draw assists on the goal.

Right after the McKenna goal, the Tigers would be penalized twice leading to a 5-on-3 penalty kill for the home side to deal with and starting goaltender Zach Zahara (Rockyview, AB) would be dialed in and stymie the Broncos power play long enough for the Tigers to kill it off and keep their two-goal lead heading to the third period.

In the final frame the Tigers got some much needed insurance from Kadon McCann (Cochrane, AB) registering his 8th of the season after winning a net-front scramble and beating Reid Dyck to push the Tiger lead to 5-2. A lead that would not see any further change as the Tigers would come away with the 5-2 win. Improving their record to 27-13-2 and now eight points clear of the Broncos from 1st to 2nd in the division.
