Owen Cooper Signs WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement with Silvertips

EVERETT, Wash. - The Everett Silvertips have officially signed forward Owen Cooper to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.

"I am truly honored and excited to be part of such a great organization," said Cooper. "The caliber of players that have come through Everett is incredible, and I know I will learn a lot from them and the amazing coaching staff there. I'm looking forward to playing in front of the best fans in the league and being able to call myself a Silvertip."

Cooper, an '08-born Calgary, AB native, was originally selected 114th-overall in the sixth round by the Silvertips in the 2023 WHL Prospects Drafted. He has appeared in 20 games with Edge Prep U18 in the CSSHL this season, accumulating seven goals and 16 assists. He also has skated in two AJHL games with the Okotoks Oilers.

"We're really excited for Owen to join our organization," commented Silvertips general manager/head coach Dennis Williams. "His game has really grown this season. He's a player we really liked at camp. We noticed his skill-set, his creativity, his character and his compete level. His tenacity in puck battles and puck recoveries is exactly what we look for in our group."

Cooper, measuring at 5-foot-6, 141 lbs., logged 14 goals and 23 assists over 22 games in 2022-23 with Edge Prep U15. He also netted four goals in five games at the 2023 Alberta Cup with Team Red.

He earned a CSSHL Varsity championship in 2021-22, collecting 17 goals and 20 assists in 26 games with Edge.

"Owen is having a fantastic season in Calgary," noted assistant general manager Mike Fraser. "He has elite hockey sense and shows good patience and vision with the puck. He's creative, quick and his style of play fits the mold of a Silvertip."

Owen Cooper is guaranteed a WHL Scholarship for every year he plays in the WHL by signing his Scholarship and Development Agreement.
