Shorebirds Split Doubleheader with Drive

Greenville, SC - The Delmarva Shorebirds (13-12) split a doubleheader with the Greenville Drive (10-15) on Monday night at Flour Field. The Shorebirds won game one, 6-5, and the Drive took game two, 3-1.
In game one, the Shorebirds jumped on Greenville starter Austin Maddox in the first inning. Gregory Lorenzo led off with a single and then stole second. He reached third on a single by Adrian Marin and scored on a sacrifice fly by Joel Hutter. Then, Christian Walker hit a line drive home run over the big wall in left field to stretch the lead to 2-0. Creede Simpson reached on a single. Wynston Sawyer reached on a third strike that got away from catcher Jayson Hernandez. Torsten Boss followed with a triple to the warning track in right-center to give the 'Birds a 4-0 lead.
The Drive countered with four runs in their half of the first. The first three batters reached on two walks and a single by Cody Koback. Boss Moanaroa grounded to second to score Mookie Betts. Two batters later, Kevin Mager connected on a three-run home run to tie the game.
The Shorebirds regained the lead in the third. Walker hit a one out double to right-center field. Simpson followed with a two-run homer to left-center, his fourth of the year.
In the bottom of the third, David Chester hit a solo home run to left field to pull the Drive within a run.
Shorebirds starter Parker Bridwell (2-2) gave up four runs in the first inning, but settled down and allowed just three hits over the next four innings to earn the win. He retired the final seven batters he faced.
Matt Price entered in the sixth inning and picked up his fourth save of the season. He allowed two hits and no runs.
Greenville starter Maddox was pinned with the loss over three innings.
Walker and Simpson combined for five of the Shorebirds' nine hits.
In game two, pitching dominated through the first three innings until Greenville plated a run in the fourth. David Chester doubled down the right field line to score Aneury Tavarez from first.
Shorebirds starter Mark Blackmar, who was pitching for the first time since April 11, went four innings and allowed six hits and one run.
The Drive added to their lead in the fifth inning against reliever Juan Guzman. Jose Vinicio tripled to deep right field and scored on a single to center by Cody Koback. Two batters later, Moanaroa doubled home Koback to increase the lead to 3-0.
The Shorebirds got on the board in the sixth inning. Tucker Nathans drilled a lead off double off the base of the left-center field wall. Then, Chase Weems singled up the middle to score Nathans.
Greenville starter Francellis Montas earned the win over five shutout innings. He allowed one hit and struck out nine batters. Francisco Taveras picked up a two-inning save.
Guzman gave two hits and two unearned runs over two innings of relief.
The Shorebirds managed only four hits in game two.
