(Savannah, GA- April 29, 2013)- The West Virginia Power beat the Savannah Sand Gnats 10-1 Monday evening at Grayson Stadium. Stetson Allie hit two home runs and drove in five to back Tyler Glasnow's first professional win.
Allie put West Virginia ahead in the top of the third inning. Ashley Ponce reached on a leadoff double off of Savannah starter Luis Cessa. Barrett Barnes reached on a single and moved Ponce to third. With two down, Stetson Allie hit a 2-2 pitch over the short wall in left field for the Power's first home run of this four-game series and a 3-0 advantage.
In the top of the fifth, West Virginia added a pair of runs on a sacrifice fly and a throwing error. In the sixth, Barnes singled in Wyatt Mathisen for 6-0 edge. The Power added two more in the seventh inning on Allie's second home run of the game; an opposite field two-run drive of reliever Julian Hilario for an 8-0 lead. It was Allie's eighth of the season, his second multi-home run game of the year, and the second time he has driven in five runs in a game. Josh Bell doubled in two runs in the top of the eighth to cap the scoring at 10-0.
Glasnow (1-0) pitched five shutout innings, allowing two hits while striking out seven in his first professional win. Cessa (2-1) took the loss after surrendering the first six runs on 11 hits. West Virginia amassed 17 hits, two fewer than they had collected in the first three games combined, and received multi-hit games from six different players.
Barnes and Ponce had three hits each while, Dilson Herrera and Walker Gourley joined Bell and Allie with a pair of hits. Bell maintained his league lead with three runs batted in, giving him 28 during the first month of the season.
West Virginia returns to Appalachian Power Park on May 1 to open a seven-game, eight-day homestand against the Greensboro Grasshoppers and Greenville Drive. Tyler Glasnow, Joely Rodriguez, and Clay Holmes are slated to pitch in the series for the against the Grasshoppers Mason Hope, Scott Lyman, and Ramon Del Orbe. Wednesday's first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
