Lexington Legends News Release
(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.) Matt Duffy's single drove in Jesus Galindo with the tie-breaking run in the top of the eighth inning, and the Augusta GreenJackets went on to a 4-2 win over the Lexington Legends in front of 7,054 fans on Education Day at Whitaker Bank Ballpark Monday.
The GreenJackets, who won three out of four games in the series, took the lead when they scored without a hit in the first inning. Galindo was hit by a pitch, moved to second on a ground out, to third on a wild pitch, and scored as Shayne Houck grounded out to shortstop.
Duffy's solo homer in the third made the score 2-0 Augusta.
The Legends tied it in the fifth on Bubba Starling's two-run homer, his fourth home run of the season.
The score remained 2-2 until the eighth. With one out, Galindo walked, stole second and came home on Duffy's single. Duffy scored on a single by Mitch Delfino, who drove in 11 runs in the four-game series.
Stephen Johnson (1-0), who entered the game in the sixth inning, picked up the win. Legends reliever Clayton Schulz (1-1) took the loss. He relieved starter Bryan Brickhouse at the start of the eighth inning. In seven innings of work, Brickhouse allowed two hits, two runs, struck out five batters and walked none.
The Legends will travel to Salisbury, Maryland to begin a three-game series against the Delmarva Shorebirds Wednesday night. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
