LYNCHBURG, VA: The Delmarva Shorebirds (3-3) took one on the chin on Friday night as they were soundly defeated by the Lynchburg Hillcats (4-2) 13-0.

The Hillcats produced the first run of the game in the opening inning on an RBI triple by Zac Fascia to make it 1-0 after an inning.

They produced another single tally in the third on an RBI double by Jose Devers to put the Shorebirds behind 2-0.

Lynchburg added to their lead with two runs in the fourth on RBIs by Angel Zarate and Juan Benjamin. Two more came home in the next inning on an RBI triple by Pres Cavenaugh followed by a sacrifice fly by Marc Filia to give the Hillcats a 6-0 lead after four.

It stayed 6-0 into the eighth inning with the main story of the game being Lynchburg starting pitcher, Austin Peterson who dealt eight shutout innings, allowing just two hits.

The game would get out of hand in the bottom of the eighth as the Hillcats scored seven runs to make it 13-0, and that would be the final score as Lynchburg shut out Delmarva for the third time this season.

Austin Peterson (3-6) was the winning pitcher with Bradley Brehmer (2-3) taking the loss for the Shorebirds.

Delmarva will quickly look for a bounce back on Saturday night with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
