PREVIEW: Following a split against Southern Division leaders Savannah, the Shorebirds square off with the RiverDogs in game one. Hickory lost last night for the first time since 4/25 to pull the 'Birds within a half game of the leaders in the Northern Division. The RiverDogs are coming off a split against the Lakewood BlueClaws.

3 HOURS LOOOOONG: The Shorebirds have played four consecutive three-hour plus games at Perdue Stadium. Game one against Savannah lasted 3:35, game two went 3:06, game three took 3:16, while last night's game went 3:09. Three of the four games in the series went into extra innings.

ONE RUN GAMES: The Shorebirds were involved in their tenth one-run game of the season last night. They are 5-5 in one-run affairs. The Shorebirds lead the lead with 10 one-run contests. Charleston has played in eight one-run games (4-4).

CLUTCH ROSA: Garabez Rosa has recorded two walk off hits this season including a base hit to right field in the 11th inning last night to score Tyler Kolodny. He also blasted a bottom of the ninth inning homer against Greensboro on April 20.

MORE BB THAN K'S: Infielder Ty Kelly is the lone player on the roster with more walks than strikeouts. He has 14 walks to 11 strikeouts.

TWO PERFECT RELIEVERS: Both Nick Haughian and Jake Smith are a perfect 3-0 on the season. Haughian earned both wins in the series against the Sand Gnats. Smith earned two of his wins in the first five games of the campaign. Only three other bullpen arms in the SAL

have won three games: Pete Ruiz - Greenville, Mitchell Clegg - Hagerstown and Jordan Flasher - Greenville.

TIED FOR THIRD: Brian Conley is tied for third in the South Atlantic League with 18 walks. He has a 1:1 strike out to walk ratio. His career high for walks in a season is 22 (Aberdeen, 2009).

DOUBLES MACHINE: With another double last night, Garabez Rosa moved into second in the South Atlantic League with 13. Only Eliezer Mesa from Asheville and Ian Gac of Kannapolis have more (14 each).

STRIKEOUT NUMBERS DOWN FOR ROSA: Infielder Garabez Rosa struck out 72 times in 64 games last season in Aberdeen. This year, he has just 14 strikeouts in 23 games. He has been fanned just three times in his last 15 at-bats.

PLANETA REELING: Shorebirds right fielder Mikey Planeta went 0-for-10 over the final two games of the Savannah series with four strikeouts.

.208 @ PERDUE STADIUM: The 'Birds are hitting just .208 at Perdue Stadium through 12 games. They have scored 42 runs (3.5 per). Delmarva hit .184 in the four game set against Savannah.

MOST ROAD WINS: Four teams in the South Atlantic League have won 10 games on the road: Delmarva (10-5), Hickory (10-6), Savannah (10-6), Greenville (10-6). Meantime, the RiverDogs are one of the worst road teams in the league (4-8).

FOURTH IN STRIKEOUTS: 'Birds opening day starter Ryan Berry ranks fourth in the circuit in strikeouts with 36. Berry has fanned 25 batters over his last three starts.

A WORLD SERIES RING: Charleston first year manager Greg Colbrunn owns a world series ring as a member of the 2001 Arizona Diamondbacks. Had two hits and an RBI in the world series against the Yankees. Colbrunn played in 992 games over the course of a 13 year big league career.

TROUBLES GETTING THEM IN: The Shorebirds are batting .211 with runners in scoring position. Three guys have been clutch; Rosa (.294), Stampone (.350) and Ty Kelly (.394).
