
Legends drop series opener to Greensboro

Justin Bass had a home run and three runs batted in as the Greensboro Grasshoppers defeated the Lexington Legends 4-1 Friday night at Applebee's Park.
The Legends took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Jonathan Meyer singled and Andy Simunic walked, and both advanced on a passed ball. Rene Garcia's infield out scored Meyer with the game's first run.
The lead lasted until the top of the sixth when Justin Bass led off with his third home run of the year.
In the Greensboro seventh, Kyle Skipworth singled and Chase Austin walked. Both moved up on a sacrifice by Chad Cregar. After Michael Pasek walked to load the bases, Terrence Dayleg's fly ball scored Skipworth to give Greensboro the lead at .2-1. Bass followed with a two-run single to close out the scoring.
Greensboro reliever Arquimedes Caminero (1-0) earned the win after entering in the sixth and pitching two scoreless innings. Lexington starter Juan Minaya (0-5) was the losing pitcher.
The series continues with a 7:05 p.m. game Saturday at Applebee's Park.
