LAKEWOOD, NJ - Coming into Friday night's start against Savannah Matt Way was winless in his five appearances, with three losses and a 6.84 ERA.

As it turns out, win #1 was well worth the wait.

Way (1-3) struck out 10 Sand Gnats in 7.2 dominant innings, allowing just five hits and one earned run for his first win of the 2010 season.

Brandon Moore (1-2) was almost as good for Savannah (18-11), only giving up three hits and three earned runs in seven innings, but the BlueClaws (16-13) made their chances count in the fifth and sixth innings.

Anthony Hewitt opened the scoring in the fifth with a solo shot to left for his team-leading fourth homer of the season. It is just the BlueClaws second home run at home in 2010.

In the sixth Lakewood added to their lead. Domingo Santana led off with a base hit to shallow center, and Jonathan Villar tripled him home to make it 2-0. That would be the third and final hit of the evening for the BlueClaws.

Jiwan James made it 3-0 in the next at-bat, grounding out to third and scoring Villar.

Savannah would cut into the lead to two and finally knock Way out of the game in the eighth, but Colby Shreve (H, 2) and Josh Zeid (S, 4) would slam the door shut out of the pen.

Saturday at 4:05 pm will be Bark in the Park at FirstEnergy Park. Bring a dog to the game for just a $2 donation to the Jersey Shore Animal Center.

RHP Jonathan Pettibone (1-0 3.45) will take the hill for Lakewood against LHP Jimmy Fuller (3-1 1.87) for the first-place Sand Gnats.
