PREVIEW: The Shorebirds look to avoid being swept in the series finale against the Suns. They have been swept five times this season. The Shorebirds have lost a season high nine games in a row dating back to the first half. Their last win came on June 14 against Kannapolis (6-4). The Shorebirds are averaging three runs per game during the losing skid.

HAD LEAD AT SOME POINT: In all six losses in the second half (which includes all 3 games of current series), the Shorebirds have had a lead at some point during the game. Last night, the Shorebirds led 3-0 after four innings, but lost 8-4.

SECOND HR FOR STARR: Sammie Starr hit his second home run of the season last night and his first since April 15 against Greensboro (51 games without a HR).

MONTH SPLITS (AVG/RUNS): The Shorebirds went 13-11 in April and batting .260. They scored 5.3 runs per game. In May, the Shorebirds went 8-21 and batted .217. They scored 3.1 runs per game. In June, the Shorebirds are 7-15 and batting .236. They are scoring 4.0 runs per game.

5-9 INNINGS: Through three games in the current series, the Suns are outscoring the Shorebirds 18-3 between the fifth and ninth innings. The Suns are outscoring the Shorebirds just 7-6 between the first and fourth innings. Last night, the Shorebirds won the first four innings 3-0, but lost the final five innings 8-1. The Suns bullpen has not allowed an earned run in 11.1 innings through three games of series.
