
Crawdads' Early Onslaught Drops Kannapolis

KANNAPOLIS, N.C.- The Kannapolis Intimidators could not dig out of an early 11-run deficit, falling to the Hickory Crawdads, 13-9, on Thursday night at CMC-NorthEast Stadium, dropping the series three games to one.
Hickory exploded out of the gate for six runs in the first inning. Luis Sardinas doubled to open the game, and four Crawdads singled behind him. After Intimidators starter Matt Lane struck out the next two batters, Jordan Akins followed with a two-run double. Nick Urbanus capped the rally with a two-run single.
The Crawdads continued the onslaught in the third inning when Alejandro Selen blasted a two-run home run (3), and the Kannapolis defense committed three errors in the frame as Hickory put up five runs, expanding their lead to 11-0.
Jerad Eickhoff (9-4) earned the win, allowing four runs on eight hits in 5.0 innings. Lane (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season, surrendering 11 runs (eight earned) on nine hits in 2 and 1/3 innings.
The teams combined for 11 errors on the night, six by Kannapolis and five by Hickory.
Kannapolis opened the bottom of the third inning with singles from Martin Medina, Leighton Pangilinan and Joe De Pinto to get a run back. Garis Pena reached base on a run-scoring error, and Keenyn Walker added an RBI-single to make it 11-3 through three innings.
Pangilinan and De Pinto each went 3-for-5 with an RBI, a double and two runs scored for Kannapolis. Ross Wilson collected a run-scoring double in the eighth inning to extend his hitting streak to a season- high 11 games, and Martin Medina went 2-for-4, moving his hitting streak to 10 games.
The Intimidators hit the road for a five-game series at Rome before returning to CMC-NorthEast Stadium on Wednesday, July 4 to open at five-game series against Greensboro. The Intimidators will have a post-game fireworks show on Independence Day, presented by the City of Kannapolis, and great seats are still available.
