STAT OF THE DAY: After going winless in 12 straight starts (April 26 was last win), Parker tossed a complete game gem last night. In his last two starts, he has allowed just two earned runs on eight hits in 12 innings pitched.
PREVIEW: After dropping the continuation of the suspended game from Friday 9-1, the Shorebirds rebounded to take the second game last night 4-1 behind a complete game from Parker Bridwell. The Shorebirds went down 1-0 on a home run by Willy Garcia in the fourth, but scored four unanswered runs to win the game. The Shorebirds have won five of their last seven games.
COMPLETE GAME: The complete game was the first seven inning complete game by a Shorebirds pitcher this season. It was also Bridwell's first career complete game and a career long outing. The last complete game of seven or more innings by a Shorebirds pitcher was August 16, 2010 when Bobby Bundy tossed a nine-inning complete game against Lakewood.
A WINNING MONTH: The Shorebirds are 10-9 in the month of July after going 8-21 in May and 8-17 in June. Their only above .500 month this season was April (13-11).
SAWYER'S INCREDIBLE 2ND HALF: In 22 games in the second half, Wynston Sawyer is batting .346 (28-for-81) with two home runs and 16 RBIs. Sawyer has six RBIs (3 multi-RBI games) in his last four played. His .237 batting average is the highest it has been since May 12 when he was hitting .257.
3 HR IN SERIES: The Shorebirds have clubbed three home runs in the three game set against the Power. Their three home runs have accounted for four of the eight total runs scored.
5TH IN O'S MINORS: Glynn Davis ranks fifth in the Orioles farm system with 89 hits. Ty Kelly leads the system 109 hits.
WIN #9 FOR CHALAS: Miguel Chalas now ranks second in the Orioles minor league (Zach Clark of Bowie with 10) system and fifth in the South Atlantic League with nine wins. The last time the Shorebirds had a ten-game winner was in 2008 when Zach Britton (12), Sean Gleason (12) and Luis Noel (10) all won at least ten games.
DAVIS PLAYING WELL: Glynn Davis has hit safely in six straight games (9-for-22, .409). He is now batting .261, the highest his batting average has been in the second half (was hitting .263 on July 17).
