Shorebirds Game Notes at Hagerstown

PREVIEW: The Shorebirds lost in extra innings on a walkoff RBI single by Drew Ward in the 12th inning on Saturday night. Delmarva has now lost five games in a row by a total margin of defeat of six runs. The Shorebirds will try to snap this losing skid as their ace Hunter Harvey makes the start against the Suns in game three.

TODAY'S OPPONENT: Hector Silvestre will make the start for Hagerstown on Sunday evening. In 13 starts, Silvestre has gone 3-5 with a 4.87 ERA for the Suns. The left-hander has faced Delmarva twice before, going 1-1 with a 4.15 ERA against the Shorebirds. The Dominican native has lost five of his last seven starts after not recording a loss in his first six outings. Silvestre pitched in the GCL last season with a 7-0 record and a 1.82 ERAin 2013.

19TH SEASON: The 2014 season marks the 19th season of Shorebirds baseball on the Eastern Shore and 18th straight year as a Baltimore Orioles affiliate. The Shorebirds' first season was 1996 as a Montreal Expos farm team.

ORIOLES WATCH: The Baltimore Orioles lost 5-4 to the Tampa Bay Rays, as Wei-Yin Chen gave up three home runs in the start. The O's scored three runs in the eighth, but they left the tying run on third base. Manny Machado and Nick Markakis each went yard in the losing effort. Baltimore is now 42-38, but with losses by Toronto and New York, the AL East standings remain unchanged.

THE IRON IS HOT: 19 out of the 25 players on the Shorebirds active roster appeared for the Ab- erdeen IronBirds in 2013. The IronBirds put together an impressive season, making the playoffs for the first time in their 12-year franchise history. Aberdeen won the McNamara Division in the New York-Penn League with a 40-32 record. The IronBirds lost in the first round of the NYPL play- offs, losing 2 games to 0 against the Tri-City Valley Cats.

WHO'S HOT/WHO ELSE

DREW DOSCH | 3B

The Shorebirds' All-Star third baseman has start- ed the second half well. Dosch had a 12-game hitting streak snapped on Thursday. Dosch is cur- rently batting .316, and he also leads the team with 31 walks drawn to raise his on-base percentage to .386. Dosch is currently 2nd in the league with 93 hits, behind Wilmer Difo (105, HAG).

WHO'S HOT - JEFF KEMP

The Shorebirds second baseman had a huge night on Tuesday, going 5-for-7 with a home run and two doubles. The five hits were the most by a Shorebird in a single game this season.

WHO ELSE - CHANCE SISCO

Since the All-Star Break, Chance Sisco has been otherworldly. The Shorebirds catcher is batting .432 (16-for-37) in 10 games in the second half. Sisco is now 4th in the SAL with a .332 batting average.
