Hagerstown Suns News Release

About yesterday... The Hagerstown Suns (8-2, 52-28) took down the Delmarva Shorebirds (4-6, 42- 37) in 12 innings Saturday night 6-5 at Municipal Stadium. It is the fourth straight one-run win for Hagerstown, and the Suns are now 6-1 in extra-inning games this season.

Left fielder Isaac Ballou scored the winning run for Hagerstown. He laced a two-out triple down the right field line to get aboard in the 12th . The Shorebirds then decided to intentionally walk DH Carlos Lopez to set up a lefty-lefty match-up with 3B Drew Ward at the plate. Ward made Delmarva pay by hitting a line drive single to left, bringing home Ballou to win the game.

The Suns were able to come back from a 5-4 deficit and tie the game in the bottom of the eighth on a sacrifice fly by 1B Jimmy Yezzo. Hagerstown had been up 4-1, but the Shorebirds plated four in the seventh to take a one-run lead. Delmarva sent nine batters to the plate in that seventh inning, and scored the four runs on five hits and one costly error, which led to three of the four runs being unearned.

The Suns had a four run inning of their own in the third to take their 4-1 advantage. Yezzo led off the third by getting hit by a pitch. Catcher Craig Manuel then sent a single to right, and RF Narciso Mesa drove both runners in with a double to left, making it 2-1. Mesa wound up scoring on a single by Ballou, and a sacrifice fly by Lopez drove in the final run of the frame.

Delmarva had taken a 1-0 lead in the top of the third on an RBI groundout by LF Lucas Herbst. It was the second time in as many games that the Shorebirds had gotten on the board first, and Delmarva ended up losing both contests.

LHP Jake Walsh (1-2) got the win for Hagerstown. He pitched the final three innings for the Suns and did not allow a batter to reach base, while striking out five. LHP Donnie Hart (0-2) suffered the loss for the Shorebirds. He threw 2.2 innings, giving up one earned run on four hits and one walk while striking out two. LHP Brett Mooneyham started for Hagerstown and went five innings, allowing one earned run on two hits and two walks while striking out three.

On the Mound... LHP Hector Silvestre will be heading to the hill this evening for the Suns. He is making his 14th start and appearance this season. He last pitched on June 24 at home against Lexington, tossing seven innings and allowing four earned runs on six hits while striking out six.

Silvestre has worked seven innings in three of his last five outings, and he has gotten a decision in each of his last seven appearances. Silvestre has also allowed at least one homerun in each of his last seven games, after not allowing a homerun in any of his first six starts. Silvestre is facing Delmarva for the third time this year. He is 1-1 against the Shorebirds and has allowed six earned runs on 15 hits over 13 innings against Delmarva. At home this year Silvestre is 2-3 with a 3.58 ERA in eight starts.

Overall this season he has worked 61.0 innings, surrendering 33 earned runs on 57 hits including nine homers. He has walked 12 and has struck out 26. Tonight he goes up against RHP Hunter Harvey for Delmarva. Harvey is making his 14th start and appearance of the season as well. He last threw on June 23 at home against West Virginia, tossing six innings and allowing one earned run on three hits and two walks while striking out seven to earn the win. It was his fifth outing this season with at least seven strikeouts. Harvey is facing the Suns for the third time this season. He is 0-1 against Hagerstown and has given up five earned runs on nine hits over 10.2 innings against the Suns this season. On the road this year he is 2-4 with a 3.34 ERA in six starts.

The Deal with Delmarva... The Suns and Shorebirds are playing the 15th of 23 games against each other this season and the ninth of 10 that will take place in Hagerstown. The Suns are 8-6 against Delmarva this year, including a 7-1 record against the Shorebirds at Municipal Stadium. The Shorebirds are currently 42-37 overall and 4-6 in the second half, good for sixth place in the Northern Division second half standings. Delmarva is currently fifth in team batting with a .267 average and third in pitching with a team ERA of 3.31.
