SALISBURY, MD: The Delmarva Shorebirds (6-20) could not win their fourth straight game against the Fayetteville Woodpeckers (16-11) as they fell by a score of 5-2 on Sunday afternoon.

Delmarva grabbed the first lead of the game as Maxwell Costes singled home Aneudis Mordan, giving the Shorebirds a 1-0 edge after two innings.

In the fourth, Fayetteville snatched the lead away as they plated two runs on a pair of wild pitches, and a third on an RBI groundout by Yamal Encarnacion to make it 3-1 Woodpeckers.

Fayetteville pushed two more runs across in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Oliver Carrilo, and a fielder's choice groundout by Kenni Gomez to put Delmarva behind 5-1.

The Shorebirds chipped one run off that deficit in the eighth as an RBI groundout by Braylin Tavera scored Thomas Sosa from third base, making it a 5-2 game.

However, that's as close as Delmarva could get as the Woodpeckers held off the Shorebirds to win 5-2.

Starting pitcher, Alonzo Treadwell (1-1), earned the win for the Woodpeckers with Jacob Cravey (0-2) taking the loss for the Shorebirds. Abel Mercedes (2) was awarded the save.

After a 12-game homestand, the Shorebirds head on the road for 12 games starting in Kannapolis on Tuesday as they face the Cannon Ballers with the first pitch scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at Atrium Health Ballpark.
