Shorebirds Fall 3-2 in Extra Innings to Legends

Salisbury, Md. - The Delmarva Shorebirds (13-14) led going into the ninth inning, but lost 3-2 in ten innings to the Lexington Legends (11-16) on Thursday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.

The Shorebirds grabbed an early lead in the third inning. Gregory Lorenzo dropped a one out bunt single and stole his eighth base of the year. Then, Tucker Nathans hit a double to left field to give the Shorebirds a 1-0 lead. Two batters later, Christian Walker picked up his 17th RBI of the season on a grounder to center field.

The Legends cut into the deficit in the fourth inning. Bubba Starling hit a one out single. He moved to third on a perfectly executed hit and run single by Michael Antonio. Starling scored on a wild pitch by Shorebirds starter Branden Kline.

Kline worked six innings and allowed just three hits and one run. He struck out five batters and walked just one.

In the ninth inning, the Legends tied the game. Antonio led off with a single. After moving to second on a sacrifice bunt, he scored on a single to right-center by Humberto Arteaga.

The Legends took the lead in the tenth inning. Ethan Chapman singled against reliever Jose Nivar. Two straight bunt singles loaded the bases. Chapman scored on a wild pitch.

The Shorebirds offense did not score over the final seven innings and they managed just four hits during the span.

Lexington reliever Cory Hall earned the win over two innings. He allowed one hit and no runs. Shorebirds reliever Jose Nivar was pinned with the loss.

Miguel Chalas tossed two scoreless innings before giving up the tying run in the ninth.

The Shorebirds and Legends play the series finale on Friday, May 3 at 7:05pm. LHP Josh Hader is the scheduled starter for Delmarva.
