
Shorebirds explode late, beat Legends 9-1

The Delmarva Shorebirds blew open a 1-1 game with two runs in the sixth inning, four in the seventh and two in the eighth and rolled past the Lexington Legends 9-1 Saturday night in Salisbury, Maryland.
Each team scored a run in the first. Lexington's Grant Hogue was hit by a pitch to start the game. After Jimmy Paredes singled Hogue to second, both runners moved up on a wild pitch by Delmarva starter Kenny Moreland. Hogue scored on Jake Goebbert's grounder to first base.
The Shorebirds tied it in their half of the first on a walk to T.J. Baxter, a wild pitch by Legends starter Jose Cisnero and a single by Ty Kelly.
The score remained 1-1 until the bottom of the sixth inning. With one out, Gary Helmick was hit by a pitch. Kelly tripled to score Helmick and Kieron Pope's infield out scored Kelly to give Delmarva a 3-1 lead.
In the Delmarva seventh, Mike Flacco walked, went to second on a wild pitch by reliever Brad Dydalewicz, and scored when shortstop Jiovanni Mier overthrew first after fielding a ground ball hit by Justin Dalles. Garabez Rosa singled, sending Dalles to third, and Helmick followed with a three-run shot over the left field wall to make the score 7-1.
Levi Carolus' two-run homer in the eighth inning closed out the scoring.
Moreland (7-5) worked the first seven innings to get the win. He allowed two hits, walked two and struck out five. The Legends had three hits in the game, all singles. Cisnero (6-6), who pitched the first six innings for Lexington, was the losing pitcher
The five-game series is even at one win each, and continues with a 5:05 p.m. game Sunday.
