Sholl Named CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Second
March 20, 2018 - ECHL (ECHL)
Idaho Steelheads News Release
Boise, ID - The ECHL announced on Tuesday that Idaho Steelheads rookie goaltender Tomas Sholl has been named the CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week for the week of March 12th-18th, the second consecutive week that Sholl has received the honor.
Sholl is the first goaltender to earn the award in back-to-back weeks since December of 2016, when Allen Americans goaltender Riley Gill won the award twice. Sholl is the first Steelhead ever to win the award in consecutive weeks and the first to win twice in a season since Jack Campbell was twice named Goaltender of the Week in the span of a month, between January 18th and February 14th of 2016.
Sholl earned consecutive shutouts last week in South Carolina, the first two shutouts of his ECHL career. The 23 year-old Sholl stopped 32 of 32 shots on Thursday against the Stingrays for a 3-0 victory, followed by a 28-save shutout on Friday night in a 1-0 victory. The 60-save week made Sholl the first goaltender this season to defeat the South Carolina Stingrays in regulation in back-to-back games. He has not surrendered a goal in 152:24.
The Hermosa Beach, California native was acquired by the Steelheads on February 28th after spending the first month of his ECHL career with the Adirondack Thunder. With the Steelheads, Sholl is 3-0-1 with two shutouts, an 0.72 goals-against average, and a .974 save percentage in four appearances, stopping 114 of 117 shots he has faced.
Sholl remains unbeaten in regulation during his ECHL career with a record of 8-0-2 to go with a 1.55 goals-against average and a .951 save percentage in 12 appearances.
Sholl started the season in the Southern Professional Hockey League, appearing in 20 games between the Macon Mayhem and Evansville Thunderbolts and posting a record of 14-3-3 with a 2.52 goals-against average, a .917 save percentage, and a shutout.
Prior to turning pro, Sholl played three years of NCAA Division I hockey at Bowling Green State University. Sholl was 7-10-0 at Bowling Green with two shutouts, a 3.93 goals-against average, and an .891 save percentage. He was named to the WCHA All-Academic Team in 2016.
The Steelheads open their final home stand of the season on Wednesday night at CenturyLink Arena with the first of three games against the Rapid City Rush. For tickets to the remaining regular-season home games, contact the CenturyLink Arena Box Office at 331-TIXS or visit idahosteelheads.com.
