Shmyr, Blades Top Hitmen 5-1

Calgary, AB - Braylon Shmyr recorded a hat-trick in his hometown to lead the Saskatoon Blades past the Calgary Hitmen 5-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

The Blades, who built period leads of 1-0 and 2-1, broke the game open with three goals in the final six minutes of the third period. Rookie goaltender Nolan Maier played a key role making 32 saves to record the win.

Max Gerlach (1g, 1a) and Brad Goethals also scored for Saskatoon.

Jakob Stukel, with his team-leading 27th, connected for Calgary's lone marker.

The Hitmen, 1-2 on their season-high seven-game home stand, are back in the 'Dome Wednesday, Feb. 23 to host Red Deer. Game time is 7:00 p.m. for the final RE/MAX Chuck-A-Puck of the season.

The home stand will also see Calgary host Edmonton (Feb. 23), Brandon (Feb. 25) and Swift Current (Feb. 27).
