Everett Silvertips News Release

EVERETT, Wash. - Dorrin Luding made 41 saves to help the Seattle Thunderbirds slip past the Everett Silvertips, 3-2 in a shootout before a sellout crowd of 8,238 in WHL action on Saturday in downtown Everett.

Carter Hart made 32 saves and Riley Sutter scored his 23rd goal of the season in the shootout loss. Martin Fasko-Rudas added a goal as the Silvertips moved to 3-2-0-2 against the Thunderbirds this season, reducing their magic number to five points to clinch a playoff spot.

UP NEXT: The Tips return to play on Sunday Feb. 18, 4:05 p.m. against the Kamloops Blazers. Tickets are on sale at www.everettsilvertips.com/ticketcentral.

The game was aggressive from the beginning, with both teams playing physical. The first penalty of the game came from Seattle, Matthew Wedman heading to the box for hooking. At 16:54, the Silvertips struck first with a tip-in from Fasko-Rudas, assisted by Luke Ormsby and Kyle Walker. The period was capped off by Ormsby and Blake Bargar heading to the box with matching unsportsmanlike conduct penalties at 19:06.

After starting off the period with 1:06 of 4-on-4 hockey, it wasn't long before Everett was on the penalty kill due to a cross check from Matt Fonteyne. Seattle capitalized off its power play only 22 seconds in with a goal from Bargar, tying up the game 1-1. A goal soon afterwards from Jarret Tyszka led to a Thunderbirds lead early in the second period at 4:26. Riley Sutter sent the puck past Dorrin Luding at 16:20 to even the score 2-2 on a wrister at the left circle.

The third period saw a lot of back-and-forth hockey, but the majority stayed in the Thunderbirds end as the Silvertips continued to dominate in shots. While there weren't a lot of penalties, things got physical as the period remained scoreless, the Silvertips failing to capitalize on several chances. Everett outshot Seattle 21-7 but the game remained tied as the two teams went to overtime for the second night in a row.

While Everett got two shots early in OT, Seattle held onto the puck for much of the period and produced one shot on goal until nearly four minutes in. Five minutes of play couldn't solve it and the game went to a shootout. Seattle's first two skaters scored, while only Fonteyne fired a wrister past Luding, the game went to the Thunderbirds after Luding stopped Patrick Bajkov's third round attempt.

Luding made 43 saves in the win.
