Shelton, Corley Moved to Birmingham

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (APRIL 21, 2011) - The Winston-Salem Dash announced today that utility man Kyle Shelton and RHP Tyson Corley have been promoted to AA Birmingham. In corresponding roster moves, RHP Addison Reed and INF Jake Oester join the Dash.

Shelton moves up after spending parts of three seasons in Winston-Salem, where he hit over .300 in that span and played six different positions. In seven games, he hit .280 with one home run and six RBI for the Dash. He spent most of last season in Winston-Salem, appearing in 68 games. He hit .301 with four home runs and 31 RBI. He also pitched one inning in relief and earned the win in the 20th inning of the second game of a doubleheader on May 19 against Myrtle Beach.

Shelton signed with the White Sox as a non-drafted free agent in 2008 after starting his professional career in the independent Frontier League with the Gateway Grizzlies. He played baseball collegiately at the University of North Carolina where he hit .326 with four home runs and 40 RBI as a senior. He was a member of the Tar Heels squad that lost to Oregon State in the College World Series Finals in 2006 and 2007, and lost to eventual-champion Fresno State in 2008.

Corley has also been in Winston-Salem for parts of the last three seasons. This season, Corley allowed five runs but none of them were earned and picked up two saves for Winston. In 2010, he went a combined 0-3 with a 3.24 ERA and 11 saves in 46 appearances between Winston-Salem, AA Birmingham and AAA Charlotte. With the Dash he registered a 1.79 ERA in 30 appearances and recorded 10 saves. He hasn't given up a home run since July 24, 2009 when he was in his first stint with the Dash.

Oester and Reed join the Dash from low-A Kannapolis. Reed appeared in four games out of the bullpen this season for Kannapolis, allowing only one run in eight innings (1.13 ERA). He came into the season rated as Baseball America's 13th best prospect in the White Sox organization. Last season he debuted in Rookie Great Falls where he was named an Honorable Mention Postseason All-Star after going 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA in 13 games (two starts).

A third round draft pick in 2010, Reed played alongside 2009 first overall draft pick Stephen Strasburg at San Diego State and was the closer that season for the Aztecs. He registered a school- and Mountain West-record 20 saves and was named NCBWA Stopper of the Year and First Team All-American. In 2010, he filled Strasburg's role as the number one starter and went 8-2 with a 2.50 ERA in 11 starts. He led the team in innings pitched (79.1) and strikeouts (90).

Oester hit 2-for-19 (.105) with two RBI in six games with the Intimidators. He signed with the White Sox as a non-drafted free agent in January 2010 out of the University of Toledo. He was teammates with current Dash RHP Justin Collop at Toledo, and was co-captain of the team in 2009. He spent 2010 with Kannapolis where he hit .207 with two home runs and 21 RBI. His father, Ron, played for the Cincinnati Reds from 1978-90 and was a backup second baseman on the 1990 World Series champion Reds.
