Potomac Nationals News Release

(SALEM, VA) ThePotomac Nationals' most impressive effort of 2011 yielded a commanding 5-2series opening victory in Salem on Thursday night. Danny Rosenbaum was in control for most of the night, workedout of trouble the very few times he encountered it, and the Nats' offenseprovided timely powerful hitting to spark Potomac's first two-game winningstreak of the season.

Rosenbaum faced just one more than the minimum in the firsttwo innings, and had a two-run lead when he took the hill for the third. After Destin Hood's league-leadingtenth walk opened the inning, Steven Souza crushed a homer to left center toput Potomac ahead. Souza now hasfive home runs and 17 RBI in the Nationals' first 12 games, both of which puthim atop the Carolina League.

The Sox halved the lead in the third, though Rosenbaum didwell to limit the damage. Heopened the inning with walks to the eighth and ninth place hitters beforeretiring Jeremy Hazelbaker on a fly ball. Peter Hissey then drove in the Sox first run with a bloop to leftfield. Kolbrin Vitek hit a frozenrope to right field to load the bases and set up one of the game's turningpoints. Rosenbaum induced aninning-ending double play off the bat of Reynaldo Rodriguez and the threat waserased.

Spurred by the escape, Potomac went back to work in thefourth. J.P. Ramirez reached on athrowing error by Salem starting pitcher Tom Ebert and moved to second on Hood'ssingle. After Souza struck out, StephenKing was hit by a pitch. Sandy Leon then cleared the bases with a shot to center;his first RBIs of the season made it 5-1.

The Sox got a run back in the eighth, which Rosenbaumsurprisingly began on the mound. With one out Vitek doubled to left and became just the fourth man Rosenbaumallowed to reach second base. Awalk to Rodriguez ended the night for Rosenbaum, who gave way to AdamOlbrychowski. Dan Butler thencrushed a ball to center field to score Vitek, but was thrown out by ChrisCurran at second - and the momentum of the rally was squashed. Ronald Bermudez grounded out toend the inning and Salem's last threat.

Pat Lehman pitched a perfect ninth for his second save andthe Nationals tied a bow on their first back-to-back wins of the year.

They look to make it three in a row Friday night in the RoanokeValley at 7:05 P.M. Trevor Holdermakes his third start for Potomac against Chris Balcom-Miller.
