River City Rascals News Release

After losing two of three in Florence, Brook and the Rascals looked to turn things around up north as they faced Traverse City for the second time this season. In the top of the first, River City bats came out hot as catcher Josh Ludy belted an early two-out homerun- his 14th of the year- to make it 1-0 River City heading into the bottom of the first. That lead would not last long however, as Beach Bum first-baseman, Yazy Arbelo, belted a two-run bomb of his own to regain the lead 2-1 over River City after the first.

In the top of the second, the Rascals led off with back-to-back base hits and looked poised to retake the lead before Eric Williams lined out to end the inning with the bases loaded. Following the missed opportunity for River City, Traverse City added some insurance runs of their own on an RBI double by Greg Harisis and a sacrifice-fly by Jeff DeBlieux- making it 4-1 Traverse City after two.

Finally in the top of the third, River City would make a comeback effort as they scored two on an RBI single by Taylor Ard and a sacrifice-fly by Curran Redal to make the score 4-3 Traverse City. However, the retaliatory pattern of Traverse City continued in the bottom of the third as they scored yet again on an RBI single by Rob Benedict. The hit was then followed by a wild-pitch and a sacrifice-fly, adding two more runs and putting the Beach Bums up 7-3 before starter Trey Lambert was pulled after 2.2 innings- where he allowed seven runs (six earned) on five hits while striking out only one.

The pendulum scoring would continue as River City added another run of its own in the top of the fourth courtesy of an RBI single by Josh Ludy- his second RBI knock of the game- making it 7-4 Traverse City. The Raskies would then add three more to tie it on a two-run double by Saxon Butler and a solo shot by Taylor Ard.

Then, in the top of the fifth, River City would finally retake the lead on a wild-pitch by Ryan Brasser, which allowed Evan Crawford to cross the plate from third. The Rascals would even add an insurance run thanks to an RBI single by Eric Williams- a hit that broke his 0-16 streak at the plate- putting River City up 9-7. The offense wouldn't end there however, as the Rascals continued the offensive performance with an RBI single from Josh Ludy and a bases-loaded walk to Zach Kometani. After the outburst, the Rascals found themselves up 12-7 heading into the bottom of the fifth.

The never-ending back-and-forth continued into the bottom of the fifth as the Beach Bums pushed three across the plate on back-to-back RBI knocks by Jeff BeBlieux and Jovan Rosa to make it a two-run game heading into the sixth at Wuerfel Park in Traverse City.

The game would then drudge along, eventually heading into the ninth with the score still 12-10 River City. After a scoreless top of the ninth, Brook sent closer Gabriel Shaw to the mound to try and lock down his tenth save of the young season. After a two-out, RBI single by Jeff DeBlieux to make it a one-run game, Shaw escaped disaster by getting a fly-out to rightfield to end the game 12-11 River City.

Tune in tomorrow night as rookie Ben Bracewell takes the hill for skipper Steve Brook in game two of the Traverse City Series. Coverage starts as always with the Rascals Pregame Show at 5:30pm CT!
