Southern Illinois Miners News Release
The Southern Illinois Miners are home for the Fourth of July weekend to host the Rockford Aviators, and what better way to celebrate than with a Miners baseball game?
On Friday, July 4th, it's Military Appreciation Night presented by Marion VA Hospital. All veterans attending the game will receive FREE admission and their families can get in at half-price! There will also be a fireworks show sponsored by Golden Eagle Distributing, People's National Bank, River Radio and WPSD-TV after the game, which begins at 7:05 p.m.
That's not all, though! On Saturday, the Miners will hold Joey Metropoulos Number Retirement Night, as the team honors the tremendous career of one of the greatest sluggers in Frontier League history.
Metropoulos will return to Rent One Park that night as the Miners make him the first player in team history to have his number retired in a pregame ceremony before the contest against the Aviators at 7:05 p.m.
The military appreciation continues into Saturday as well, as all veterans will receive $2 admission, with their families once again getting in for half-price. There will also be yet ANOTHER postgame fireworks show that night.
On Sunday, July 6th, it's Family Fun Sunday sponsored by WSIL-TV as the Miners finish up their series with Rockford at 5:05 p.m. All kids 12 and under get in FREE when they join the Miners kids club. Also, it's Kids Run the Show Night! Kids will be randomly selected to help that night with areas such as PA, ticket-taking, and on-field contest.
The Southern Illinois Miners are the 2012 Frontier League Champions and have been awarded the Frontier League Organization of the Year award three times since their inception. They also set a new Frontier League attendance record in 2007, their inaugural season. For ticket information, please contact the Rent One Park box office at 618-998-8499.
