Kingston Frontenacs News Release
On Wednesday, November 3, the Kingston Frontenacs had a very special presentation prior to their game against the Mississauga Steelheads. Alan Millar, Director of Player Personnel, Hockey Canada, accompanied by Simon and Tanya Wright (Shane's parents) presented Shane Wright with his 2021 IIHF U-18 World Championship ring.
This past April and May, twenty-three CHL players represented Canada at the 2021 IIHF U-18 World Championships. Following a perfect 4-0 preliminary round, a quarter-final win over the Czech Republic, a semifinal win over Sweden, Team Canada defeated Russia 5-3 in the gold medal game to win Canada's first U-18 World Championship since 2013.
Shane Wright Captained Team Canada to a 7-0 record while scoring 9 goals and 5 assists for 14 points in just 5 games. His 9-goal performance set a new Canadian record for most goals in a single tournament, passing the previous record of 8 set by Connor McDavid.
Congratulations to Shane and all CHL players and staff on this outstanding accomplishment.
