Brampton Steelheads News Release

The Steelheads' aggressive, hard-working play paid off big time as Ethan Del Mastro's first career OHL game-winner puts the Steelheads on top in overtime 3-2.

First Period

The Steelheads were looking to continue with their winning ways in Kingston against the Frontenacs.

The Steelheads dictated the pace with a strong tempo in the first period against the top-ten, nationally-ranked Kingston squad.

Steelheads opened the scoring at the 4:01 mark of the opening frame, courtesy of an excellent feed from Luca DelBelBelluz to Ty Collins going top-shelf blocker side past Frontenacs netminder Leevi Merilainen for the 1-0 lead. Kasper Larsen was also credited for the assist.

Kingston responded at the 12:58 mark when top-ranked NHL Draft prospect Shane Wright capitalized on a Steelheads defensive breakdown, shooting blocker side past netminder Roman Basran to tie the game.

Despite the goal, Basran played well in the net with several quality saves, and the Steelheads defended their zone well with great forechecking.

Second Period

The period started on a tough note for the Steelheads as Kingston took the lead less than 90 seconds in as Martin Chromiak scored with the one-timer past Basran. The Frontenacs thought they extended the lead at the 12:21 mark with Chromiak's second goal of the game, only for it to be called off due to offside.

The Steelheads offence sustained their great tempo, producing multiple quality chances in the attacking zone, but could not score the equalizer. The second period concluded with the Steelheads on the powerplay.

Third Period

The Steelheads' high-energy style play paid dividends early in the frame, as Aidan Prueter intercepted the puck in the neutral zone, going upstairs past Merilainen to tie the game at 2. Steelheads' Basran was cool and calm between the pipes throughout the third period, including an excellent robbery on Kingston's Thibodeau.

Steelheads turned up their pace with multiple chances in the Kingston zone during the period but couldn't provide the winner as the game went to the extra session.

Overtime

For the third straight game, the Steelheads headed to the extra frame. Basran made several crucial saves, including a highlight robbery save on Kingston's Thibodeau early in the period.

In the closing seconds, the Steelheads made the tired Frontenacs pay for their mistakes, as Luke Misa intercepted the puck in the neutral zone, made a great pass to Ethan Del Mastro for the one-timer over Kingston's Merilainen to win the game as the time expired. Aidan Prueter was also credited for the assist on the Del Mastro game winner.
