IceDogs Announce Additions to Leadership Group

Niagara, ON - This morning, Head Coach Billy Burke announced additions to the 2021-22 Leadership group. Dakota Betts and Danil Guschin have been named as Assistant Captains.

"When we announced Cam, Jake and Mason as our leaders at the start of the season, we always knew we wanted to add to that group of players. Danil Gushchin and Dakota Betts have made it impossible to go any further without recognizing these two players as leader of our team", said Burke.

"Dakota Betts is playing nearly 30 minutes a night for us in all situations. He goes out of his way to make sure everyone on the team feels included and a part of the team. He is not the most vocal guy, but when he speaks, everyone listens and his actions always speak louder than his words. I am very proud to announce Dakota as an Assistant Captain."

"It's an honour to be named one of the assistant captains and be a leader for this team. I look forward to being the guy the younger players on the team can look up to and do whatever it takes to lead them in the right direction" shared Betts.

"We knew Danil Gushchin was a leader and a great person before he arrived here, but I was unsure if he would be ready to be a captain right away. His actions have made him undeniable. The way he prepares himself before and after every game and practice is exactly like the pros do. he is always positive and talking to his teammates, trying to help them in any way he can. On top of his character, he goes and backs everything up on the ice as he is as elite of a player as we have in our league", said Burke.

Gushchin shared his excitement, "First of all, I want to thank the team for choosing me as an Assistant Captain. Of course, I am very happy to receive this title. It gives me more confidence and motivation to work harder and set good examples both on and off the ice. I also want to say that every guy on this team is a great leader, we have a great group of guys and I'm excited to continue the season".

"I couldn't be more proud of Danil and Dakota, and I know they will do an excellent job complimenting an already strong leadership group. Dakota will wear the 'A' on our white jerseys and Danil will wear the 'A' on our red jerseys."
