CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Throughout the series, the Cedar Rapids Kernels and Quad Cities River Bandits have battled back and forth. Saturday was no exception as the Kernels edged the River Bandits, 8-7.
After falling behind 1-0, the Kernels tied the game up in the bottom of the fourth inning on an RBI single from Alex Isola, scoring Aaron Sabato. The Kernels then added three more in the fifth inning, two of them coming on a single from Sabato, giving the Kernels a 4-1 lead.
The lead disappeared in the top of the sixth when Logan Porter got his first hit of the series, which happened to be a three-run home run, tying the game up 4-4.
The Kernels regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth when Isola hit a solo home run to left field, making it 5-4 Kernels. It was Isola's 13th home run of the season.
That lead disappeared when the River Bandits scored two runs in the top of the seventh. Maikel Garcia led off the inning with a solo home run and then Eric Cole recorded an RBI single to make it 6-5.
Then in the bottom of the seventh, Yunior Severino gave the Kernels the lead for good with a three-run blast to right-center. It was his second home run of the series.
