Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
Allentown, Pa. - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) jumped out to an early seven-run lead and cruised to an 8-2 victory behind a dominant Luis Severino on Sunday afternoon. The Railriders (41-30) claimed two-of-three from the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (27-45) at Coca-Cola Park to earn their fourth consecutive series triumph.
Severino (3-0) hurled a career-best 7.2 innings while striking out seven against no walks. He yielded two unearned runs on four hits. Chad Billingsley (2-2) was hit hard in his second rehab start for the IronPigs. The right-hander surrendered seven runs, five earned, on seven hits before he was lifted with two out in the third.
The RailRiders started on time for the second straight game. Kyle Roller crushed a moonshot to the right of the batter's eye beyond center that scored Ben Gamel and Jose Pirela for a 3-0 advantage.
Gamel followed with a two-run blast down the right field line in the second inning for a 5-0 advantage. A pair of fielding errors by Lehigh Valley sandwiched two outs. Nick Noonan and Rob Segedin delivered consecutive run-scoring hits to pad the score at 7-0.
Lehigh Valley scratched across two runs in the sixth on a force play and sacrifice fly before Noonan scored on a wild pitch in the seventh to end the scoring.
