Syracuse Mets News Release
The Syracuse Chiefs took the final game of a three-game set against the Buffalo Bisons, 1-0, in 10 innings on Sunday afternoon at NBT Bank Stadium. The game remained scoreless until the 10th when Tony Gwynn Jr. hit an RBI single to walk off the Bisons.
The game was a pitchers' duel between Syracuse starter Taylor Jordan and Buffalo starter Jeff Francis. Neither starter surrendered a run in their outings on Sunday. Jordan completed seven innings and allowed only two hits and three walks while striking out two against the Bisons. Over his past two starts, Jordan has now thrown 14 consecutive scoreless innings.
Francis was just as dominant for Buffalo (34-37). The 34-year-old veteran hurled eight innings of shutout baseball for the Bisons. The left-hander allowed only three hits and one walk and struck out seven on Sunday. Francis lowered his ERA to 2.06 on the season after eight scoreless frames.
Syracuse (24-46) won and broke the scoreless tie in the 10th inning against Andrew Albers. Kevin Keyes continued his hot hitting and grounded a single into left field to lead off the inning. Ricky Hague followed with a sacrifice bunt that moved Keyes to second with one man out. Then, Gwynn Jr. lined an RBI single to right-center field, which scored Keyes and gave the Chiefs the 1-0 win.
The Chiefs open a four-game set against the Charlotte Knights on Monday night at 7:05 p.m. at NBT Bank Stadium. Syracuse sends right-hander Paolo Espino to the mound against a pitcher to be announced for Charlotte.
