Seventh-Inning Error Spells Doom for Tribe

LOUISVILLE, KY - The Indianapolis Indians committed a fielding error with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, propelling the Louisville Bats to a 4-3 victory over the Tribe Wednesday afternoon at Louisville Slugger Field. Four of Indy's six hits went for extra bases in the loss.

Louisville (11-18) began its final surge at the plate with Tribe starter Nick Kingham out of the game after six innings of three-run ball. With the score level at 3-3, Alex McRae - originally slated to start for the Tribe - was forced into action out of the bullpen. The Bats mounted a threat immediately, using a leadoff walk and ensuing double by Dilson Herrera to put two men in scoring position with no outs.

McRae (L, 0-4) then induced a popout off the bat of Brandon Dixon, but following an intentional walk to load the bases, third baseman Wyatt Mathisen mishandled a Gabby Guerrero grounder to third, allowing the game-deciding run to score.

Indianapolis (15-15) gained a 1-0 lead just two batters into the game thanks to Pablo Reyes' first career Triple-A home run.

Kingham, fresh off a pair of big-league victories, had a shaky second inning that gave Louisville a 3-1 advantage. A walk and single teed up a run-scoring single by Joe Hudson, and two outs later, Mason Williams lined a two-RBI single into right-center.

Bats southpaw Justin Nicolino held the Tribe to just one run on two hits through his first five frames, but Indy ripped three doubles in the sixth to even the score. Kevin Newman, Christopher Bostick and Eric Wood all notched two-baggers in the inning.

Domingo Tapia (W, 2-2) tossed a scoreless seventh to earn the win for Louisville, and Kevin Quackenbush (S, 2) recorded his second save of the series.

The Indians and Bats conclude their four-game set Thursday night in Louisville, with first pitch scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET. Indy has not yet named a starter. Louisville will send left-hander Cody Reed (0-0, 2.25) to the bump.
