From the Notes

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Indians avoided falling below .500 with a 5-2 victory last night in Louisville over the Bats. Casey Sadler posted five innings of one-run ball, his lone blemish coming on a solo homer by Dilson Herrera to open the bottom of the fifth. Sadler surrendered just two hits and one walk with eight strikeouts en route to his first win of the year. Jacob Stallings, Wyatt Mathisen and Pablo Reyes each recorded two hits, and five different batters drove in exactly one run. A safety squeeze by Sadler in the third netted the Tribe their first run, and Stallings gave the Indians the lead for good with a go-ahead RBI single in the sixth. Erich Weiss roped his league-high tying third triple to plate another run before scoring on a single by Mathisen. Jordan Luplow stayed hot at the plate by driving an RBI double in the seventh to cap the scoring. Johnny Hellweg worked around a walk and single with a game-ending 6-4-3 double play to convert his fifth save of 2018.

STAY IN THE LUP: Jordan Luplow had an uncharacteristic April, batting just .180 by the month's end. Since May 1, the slug-ger has hit safely in all but one game, posting a .478 average (11-for-23) for the month. He has five extra-base hits already in May (two homers, two tripes, one double) after totaling just one double and one triple over 18 games in April. He has been at his best this season with runners on base, posting a .356 clip (16-for-45) and 1.012 OPS.

HOW 'BOUT THAT DEBUT: Wyatt Mathisen, transferred from Double-A Altoona to Indy on Monday, made his Triple-A debut last night and didn't disappoint, going 2-for-3 with an RBI, run scored and walk from the seventh spot in Indy's lineup. Mathisen was off to a solid start in the Eastern League, slashing .385/.585/.692 in 12 games for the Curve.

AHEAD OF THE PACK: Indy sits at or near the top of the league in several offensive categories. The Indians lead the IL in average (.270), doubles (73) and triples (13). They also rank second in slugging percentage (.408) and OPS (.735) and are tied for the second fewest strikeouts (211).

SERVING UP ZEROES: Tanner Anderson, who allowed five earned runs in his Triple-A debut, is riding a 16.0-inning score-less streak dating back to April 8, the longest scoreless streak by a Tribe pitcher this season and the longest of his career. He tossed another two shutout innings in the seventh and eighth last night, scattering two hits with one strikeout en route to his team-high fourth hold.

JOHNNY ON THE SPOT: Another late-inning reliever, Johnny Hellweg, maintained his perfect 0.00 ERA on the season despite a little trouble last night. He allowed a one-out walk which was followed by a single to put runners at the corners. The veter-an then fell behind Tyler Goeddel in the count, 3-1, before battling back and inducing a game-sealing 6-4-3 double play for the Tribe. He has recorded five saves in as many tries and has allowed just six hits and five walks with nine strikeouts in 12 innings pitched, good for a 0.92 WHIP and .154 (6-for-39) batting average against.

PABLO PERFORMING: Tribe utilityman Pablo Reyes went just 4-for-20 in his first seven games with the Tribe. Over his last seven games (six starts), he's riding a six-game hitting streak; he's batted .429 (9-for-21) with three doubles during that stretch. The versatile Reyes has started at second, third, shortstop and center field for the Indians so far this season.

HE'LL HIT ANYWHERE: Christopher Bostick has started in 23 of Indy's 29 games so far this season, and his name typically appears in a different spot on the lineup card anytime he gets the nod from manager Brian Esposito. Bostick has already hit everywhere except cleanup this year for Indy. In 2017, Bostick batted everywhere in the lineup except fourth and fifth. Out-fielder Danny Ortiz, now with Lehigh Valley, was the lone Tribe player in 2017 to bat at least once in every spot in the order.
