Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Chiefs erased deficits of 5-0 and 7-5, but ultimately lost to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, 8-7, on Wednesday night at NBT Bank Stadium. Spencer Kieboom had two hits and two RBIs for the Chiefs in the loss.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (15-17) wasted no time getting on the board. With two outs in the top of the first inning, Clint Frazier doubled and Mike Ford walked to put runners on first and second base. Adam Lind singled, scoring Frazier and moving Ford to third for a 1-0 RailRiders lead. Kyle Higashioka followed with a single, bringing home Ford and advancing Lind to second to make it a 2-0 edge. Zack Zehner then hit a three-run home run over the right-center-field wall to push the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre lead to 5-0.

Syracuse (16-14) scored its first run in the bottom of the second. With one out, Jacob Wilson doubled. Two batters later, Kieboom singled to right field, scoring Wilson to cut the deficit to four, 5-1.

The Chiefs tied the game in the third. Rafael Bautista led off with a single. After a fly out and a pop out, Mark Reynolds walked to put runners on first and second. Matt Reynolds doubled to score Bautista and push Mark Reynolds to third as the score moved to 5-2. Wilson then singled home Mark Reynolds, trimming the RailRiders' advantage to 5-3. Irving Falu followed with a single that scored Matt Reynolds from third to make it a 5-4 ballgame, and Kieboom singled after that to bring home Wilson from second and knot the game, 5-5.

The RailRiders regained the lead in the fourth. Zehner led off the inning with a walk and scored on a Bruce Caldwell double to right-center field for a 6-5 RailRiders edge.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre added a run in the top of the sixth. With one out, L.J. Mazzilli, Tyler Wade, and Shane Robinson all singled to load the bases. Frazier then ripped a ball to third baseman Bengie Gonzalez who made an error, allowing all the runners to reach safely, including Mazzilli who scored to make it 7-5.

Syracuse came back again in the bottom of the sixth. Kieboom and Gonzalez both walked to start the frame. Bautista laid down a sacrifice bunt to the left of the pitcher's mound. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre reliever Joe Harvey fielded the ball and made an errant throw to third base, allowing both Kieboom and Gonzalez to score, tying the game, 7-7.

The RailRiders scored the eventual game-winning run in the seventh. Lind doubled and Higashioka singled to put runners on the corners with no outs. Two batters later, Caldwell singled to center field, and Lind scored to give Scranton/Wilkes-Barre an 8-7 lead.

The Chiefs had a runner on second base and no outs in the bottom of the ninth, but Cody Carroll struck out the next three batters to end the game.

Syracuse continues its seven-day homestand on Thursday night with the first game of a four-game series against the Pawtucket Red Sox. LHP Tommy Milone will be on the mound for the Chiefs, and RHP William Cuevas will pitch for the Red Sox. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
