Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Savannah, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets gave starter Jeremy Toole their biggest first inning lead of the season - seven runs - in a 15-2 victory over the Savannah Sand Gnats on Friday night at Historic Grayson Stadium.

The Jackets sent 11 men to the plate in a first inning that took 21 minutes to complete. The seven runs scored on five hits, two walks and an error. Augusta got sacrifice flies in the frame from Chris Dominguez and Ydwin Villegas, a bases loaded walk from Daniel Cook, a Ryan Lollis grounder to third that was mishandled and on RBI hits by Luke Anders and Nick Liles - with the latter bringing in a pair of runs.

Augusta extended the lead to nine in the second on a two-run home run by Tommy Joseph in a game where the Jackets scored in every inning but the third, fifth and ninth. Villegas doubled home a pair in the fifth and singled home another in the sixth as part of a four-RBI night. Chris Dominguez doubled home a run in the seventh while Juan Martinez doubled home another as part of a two-run eighth. A wild pitch resulted in Augusta's other run in that inning.

Savannah's runs came on a Cesar Puello groundout in the third and a double steal in the sixth on Puello's 40th stolen base of the year and second steal of home this season.

For the second straight night, the GreenJackets got a quality start as Jeremy Toole allowed two runs and three hits in six innings. Toole (4-4) walked three and struck out three in second win in his last three starts.

Collin McHugh (3-7) didn't get out of the second inning in his second loss to the Jackets this season. In 1.2 innings, he allowed nine runs - six earned - on seven hits and two walks without striking anyone out.

Of the 11 position players used by manager Dave Machemer, ten recorded base hits in the contest as part of Augusta's 20-hit attack. The GreenJackets' 15 runs fell two shy of tying a season-best while their 20 hits were one shy of a season-high. Their 13-run margin of victory makes the game Augusta's biggest win of the season.

Augusta has now won seven of their last ten games and will send Brian Irving (6-3, 4.52) to the mound on Saturday night as they try to make it three in a row against Savannah. The Sand Gnats will send Armando Rodriguez (5-6, 3.39) to the hill to oppose. First pitch will come at 6:05 p.m. with the pregame action beginning at 5:50 p.m. on WRDW AM 1630, www.greenjacketsbaseball.com and www.wrdwam.com.
