Akron RubberDucks News Release
The Akron RubberDucks strike for seven in the top of the 10th to complete the comeback from down 2-0 and beat the Erie SeaWolves 9-2 in 10 innings on Saturday night at UPMC Park.
Turning Point
After tying the game in the eighth, Akron looked for its first lead of the night in the 10th. Petey Halpin singled to put runners on the corners with no outs before Jose Tena grounded into a fielder's choice that allowed Cesar Idrogo to score, making it 3-2 Akron. Two batters later, Aaron Bracho lined a two-run single off the wall in left to stretch the RubberDucks lead to 5-2. Bryce Ball punctuated the inning by launching a grand slam off the light pole beyond the wall in right-center to put Akron ahead 9-2.
Mound Presence
Hunter Stanley took the ball to start for Akron and ran into some trouble in the second inning. The SeaWolves struck for two runs against the right-hander in the second. Stanley settled in after the inning to only allow one baserunner the rest of the way to finish 4.2 innings allowing two runs on two hits while striking out four. Jack Leftwich dominated Erie in relief of Stanley tossing four scoreless innings while striking out three. Davis Sharpe worked a scoreless inning and a third.
Duck Tales
Being held scoreless through the first four innings, Akron finally broke through in the fifth. Idrogo picked up his first Double-A hit with a two-out single through the hole at short. Halpin followed with a double off the big wall in left to score Idrogo, cutting the Erie lead to 2-1. In the eighth inning, Akron once again tied the game with some late inning magic. Two singles and a fielder's choice put runners on the corners with one out for Juan Brito, who lifted a sac-fly to right to tie the game 2-2.
