Portland Falls 4-3 After Richmond's Ninth Inning Comeback

Richmond, Virginia- The Portland Sea Dogs (16-10, 56-39) fall 4-3 to the Richmond Flying Squirrels (16-10, 49-46) on Saturday night.
Wikelman Gonzalez fired 5.0 innings to start with four strikeouts before Ryan Miller, Ryan Zeferjahn, and Joe Jones combined for 3.0 scoreless innings in relief. Tyler Dearden had a perfect day at the plate going two-for-two with a double, single, and a run scored.
Richmond took the 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI double from Brady Whalen.
Tyler McDonough put Portland on the board in the top of the fifth with a three-RBI single to right field and the Sea Dogs took the 3-1 lead.
A solo home run from Andy Thomas in the bottom of the fifth put Richmond within one but Portland led 3-2.
Richmond tied the game in the bottom of the ninth with an RBI single from Ismael Munguia. A sacrifice fly to center field from Whalen scored Munguia and the Flying Squirrels walked it off 4-3.
Richmond reliever RHP Tyler Myrick (1-0, 0.00 ERA) earned the win after pitching 2.0 scoreless innings allowing two hits. He did not issue a walk. The loss was issued to Portland reliever RHP Luis Guerrero (3-2, 1.96 ERA) after pitching 0.2 innings allowing two runs on three hits while walking one and striking out one.
The Sea Dogs return to The Diamond tomorrow, Sunday, July 30th, 2023 for the final game of a six-game series against the Richmond Flying Squirrels. First pitch for game six is slated for 1:35pm. Portland will start RHP Chih-Jung (CJ) Liu (5-7, 4.57 ERA) while Richmond will give the ball to RHP Ryan Murphy (1-7, 4.67 ERA).
