Seven-run sixth inning gives Bulls the win

Durham, NC - Delmon Young's bases loaded triple highlighted a seven-run sixth inning for the Bulls as Durham defeated the Norfolk Tides, 13-8 on Tuesday night at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Durham won its third straight game, improving to 48-62 on the season while Norfolk falls to 62-50.
Bulls center fielder Darnell McDonald led off the sixth inning with an infield single, then advanced to second when catcher Tim Laker drew a walk from Tides starter Jason Scobie. After Scobie retired Trenidad Hubbard on a fly out to center, shortstop B.J. Upton drew another walk, loading the bases. With the bases loaded, second baseman Fernando Cortez was hit by a pitch, scoring McDonald from third. Young followed with his bases loaded triple, giving the Bulls a 10-7 lead. Earl Snyder then hit an RBI-single to left, scoring Young. With Snyder on first, designated hitter Eric Munson blasted a two-run homer to right-center field to complete the seven-run inning, giving Durham a 13-7 lead. Munson's sixth-inning blast was his 20th home run of the season.
The game started out badly for the Bulls as Norfolk jumped out to a 6-1 lead entering the bottom of the fourth. Durham answered in the bottom half of the inning, posting five runs in the frame to tie the game at 6-6. Snyder reached on a fielding error to start the inning and then scored when Eric Munson hit an RBI-double to center. Josh Phelps followed with a single to center, advancing Munson to third base. After McDonald drew a walk to load the bases, Tim Laker hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Munson. The Bulls added two runs on a fielding error by Tides shortstop Chase Lambin and another run on an Upton ground out to tie the game.
Young provided the Bulls with what could be the highlight of the year in the top of the fourth. With runners on first and third, Norfolk third baseman Rodney Nye hit a fly ball to right that was caught by Young who threw out Eric Valent at home before Laker threw to first to record an unconventional 9-2-3 triple play. The 9-2-3 triple play was the first triple play in Durham Bulls Triple-A history.
Bulls relief pitcher Tim Corcoran (5-1) picked up his fifth victory of the season, benefiting from the five-run fourth and seven-run sixth while allowing two runs on four hits in 3.2 innings of work. Norfolk starter Jason Scobie (13-5) suffered his fifth loss of the year, allowing 11 runs on six hits in 5.2 innings pitched.
