Tri-City ValleyCats News Release

TROY, NY - After hanging tight for a majority of their game in Lowell on Saturday night, the Tri-City ValleyCats gave up seven runs in the eighth inning, losing to the Lowell Spinners by a score of 9-2.

Carlos Machado had a 3-for-3 day at the plate, while Logan Mattix hit his first home run of the season to provide most of Tri-City's offense.

Mattix's home run came in the second inning, giving the ValleyCats a 1-0 lead until the fourth inning.

Lowell then scored two runs off of Jose Alberto Rivera to take a 2-1 lead.

Then in the sixth inning, Nate Perry used a sacrifice fly to bring home Machado with the tying run.

The game then fell out of reach in the eighth inning, when the ValleyCats surrenered seven runs in one frame for just the second time this year.

SIx of the runs were charged to Jacob Billingsley, who got credit for the first losing decision of his career.

Now having lost a season-high-tying three straight games, the ValleyCats have dropped to 33-26, still leading the Stedler division by 1.5 games over Lowell.

Tri-City will try to salvage its series finale in Lowell on Sunday evening, with first pitch scheduled for 5:35 p.m.
