Pensacola Pelicans News Release

The Pelicans spoiled the Air Hogs' opening night at Quiktrip Park, winning 7-6. Bubba Nelson earned the win, and Hunter Davis pitched a scoreless ninth to notch his second save of the year.

Antoin Gray was a big part of the offense, driving in Jimmy Mojica on a double in the top of the first, and hitting a three run homer in the second inning. The Pelicans added two more when Mojica drove Chase Burch in with a single, and Dallas Christison came in on a Francisco Leandro base hit. The Pelicans added one more run in the third, when Chase Burch touched home for the second time on a Marcos Rodriguez single.

The Air Hogs answered back with three runs after two innings, and scored a run an inning in the fifth, sixth, and seventh. They fell one short however, as Pensacola won the game seven to six.

Every Pelicans' win this season has come with seven runs; the Pelican pitching staff kept the lead intact with four pitchers teaming up for the victory. Bubba Nelson started the game and went five innings, giving up four runs, of which only two were earned. Dane DeValk allowed one earned run in two innings pitched, as the Pelicans defense committed four errors.

Ulysses Roque added his support, pitching a scoreless eighth. Hunter Davis came on in the ninth and knocked down the Air Hogs in order, fielding a come-backer and throwing to first to seal win. Hunter gained his second save of the year, as the Pelicans took game one of this three game series.

The Air Hogs host the Pelicans again Saturday night, as Randy Beam takes the hill against Grand Prairie's Kieran Mattison. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Listeners can catch all the action free online at www.pensacolapelicans.com.
