Harrisburg Senators News Release

The Harrisburg Senators doubled up the Akron Aeros in game two of their Sunday doubleheader at Canal Park in Akron, and swept the three-game weekend series in the process.  The Senators (67-59) won the ballgame 2-1, and have a chance to take the lead in the race for the second playoff spot in the Eastern League's Western Division.  The Senators will be one game in front of Bowie if they lose Sunday night to Richmond, or tied if the Baysox prevail.

Jack Spradlin started game two for the Senators on Sunday, and struck out eight batters in three and two-thirds shutout innings.  The eight strikeouts matched Spradlin's career high mark, which he set on June 25, 2007 while with Potomac.  Rafael Martin (5-2) relieved Spradlin, threw an inning and a third without allowing a run, and got the win.  Cole Kimball got the last four outs, and recorded his seventh save.  For Akron, starting pitcher Matt Packer (0-2) took the loss.

The Sens scored their two runs in the second and fourth innings, with catcher Devin Ivany driving in both runs.  Ivany drove in Chris Marrero with an RBI groundout in the second, and singled home Josh Johnson in the fourth.  Akron (64-62) got its run in the sixth, when Carlos Rivero drove in Jerad Head with a single.  Rivero finished three-for-three for the Aeros.  The Senators outhit Akron 8-4, getting two hits from Marrero, and a single hit from six other players.  Johnson, Ivany, Ofilio Castro, Brad Coon, Adam Fox, and Jesus Valdez each had a hit in the win.

The Senators now head home for their final regular season homestand of the season, with seven games against Portland and Trenton.  Left-hander Aaron Thompson (4-12, 5.74) is scheduled to start game one of the series for the Sens, on Monday night at 7:05.  Fans can hear all the action in that one, starting with the pregame show at 6:50, by tuning in to 1460 AM The Ticket or logging on to www.senatorsbaseball.com.
