Senators Win 3-2
June 5, 2009 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release
On Friday night at Metro Bank Park, the Senators won in walk-off fashion for a second straight game, this time 3-2 over the New Britain Rock Cats in 10 innings. The Sens received more outstanding pitching, this time from Erik Arnesen, followed by Dave Williams and Zech Zinicola. They combined to allow just two runs in 10 innings.
The Rock Cats received outstanding pitching as well from starter Ryan Mullins who gave up two runs in the first, then settled in and took the game into the sixth inning before turning the game over to Alex Burnett.
After the Rock Cats scored in the first on a single by Whit Robbins driving in Brandon Roberts, the Sens came back with two in the bottom of the first. Joel Guzman singled in Ofilio Castro to tie the game and Leonard Davis followed with a sacrifice fly to left field scoring Edgardo Baez to give the Sens a 2-1 lead.
Erik Lis homered off of Arnesen with two-outs in the fourth to tie the game 2-2.
Both teams had several chances to score with the Senators loading the bases with one out in the seventh, but Baez hit into a double play. New Britain had their lead off men on in the eighth and ninth innings but failed to score. The Sens had their best chance in the ninth, putting runners at second and third with no outs. But Anthony Slama pitched into and out of trouble by striking out Baez and Guzman with the bases loaded.
Zech Zinicola pitched a perfect 10th inning to earn the win, when Bill Rhinehart singled over the head of Matt Moses in left field scoring Leonard Davis with the winning run. Anthony Slama was the tough luck loser for New Britain.
The win for the Senators coupled with the Altoona Curve loss to Akron means the Senators are out of the cellar for the first time since early in the season.
The series continues on Saturday night at 7:00pm with RH Carlos Martinez on the mound for the Senators opposed by Cole DeVries.
