June 5, 2009 - Eastern League (EL1)
New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Manchester, NH- Randy Boone pitched a career-high eight innings, and Brian Dopirak went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, but the Reading Phillies rallied past the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 3-2, before a crowd of 6,142 at Merchantsauto.com Stadium on Friday night.
The Fisher Cats (26-30) wasted no time in ending a franchise-record 33-inning scoreless drought. With one out in the bottom of the first inning, Adam Calderone (2-for-4, 2B, SB, 2 R) walked, stole second base and scored when Dopirak (2-for-3, 2B, 2 RBI, BB) looped a single into center off Phillies starter Vance Worley for a 1-0 lead.
The combination of Calderone and Dopirak struck again to give New Hampshire a 2-0 lead in the home half of the third on back-to-back doubles off Worley.
Reading (31-22) began its comeback in the top of the fourth against Boone. Brad Harman (0-for-3, BB, R) walked, advanced to third on Michael Taylor's single and scored on Brian Stavisky's sac fly, trimming the Fisher Cats' lead to 2-1.
The Phillies forged ahead in the top of the seventh inning, first tying the game 2-2 on an RBI single from Paul Bako (2-for-4, 2B, RBI) and then taking the lead for good, 3-2, when Gus Milner (2-for-3, R, BB) scored on a two-out fielding error by second baseman Brad Emaus.
Boone (4-3) scattered six hits and allowed three runs -two earned- in his longest career outing. The right-hander fanned four and walked two.
Chance Chapman (3-0) pitched one shutout inning of relief to notch the win. Jason Anderson registered his second save in three opportunities with 1.2 scoreless frames.
The Fisher Cats and R-Phils meet again at 7:05pm on Saturday night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium when New Hampshire right-hander Rey Gonzalez (3-2, 2.31) pitches against Reading righty Mike Stutes (3-1, 4.78). Radio coverage begins at 6:45pm with the BayRing Pre-Game Show on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Bob Lipman and Patrick Sheehy, a 16-year-old from Goffstown, NH, who won the opportunity to broadcast the game as part of the Citizens Bank Kids Run the Show promotion.
Saturday night is Citizens Bank Kids Run the Show Night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium, followed by an Atlas Fireworks Show. For tickets, visit www.nhfishercats.com or call (603) 641-2005.
