BOWIE, Md. - Japenese right-hander Ryohei Tanaka was assigned to the Bowie Baysox today. A former first-round draft pick by the Chiba Lotte Marines out of high school, Tanaka signed with the Orioles as a minor league free agent last offseason. He is the first Japanese player to take the field for the Baysox.

Tanaka played with current Baysox Brandon Snyder, Miguel Abreu, Chad Thall and Ryan Ouellette with the Honolulu Sharks in the Hawaii Winter Baseball league in 2007.

The Baysox 17th season as the class AA affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles is underway!
