Bridgeport Islanders News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (Nov. 24, 2012) - Binghamton's Cole Schneider and Eric Gryba each scored their first two goals of the 2012-13 season as the Senators defeated the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 6-1 at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena on Saturday night. With the win, the Senators improve to 10-4-1-1. The Sound Tigers have lost three straight games and fall to 10-7-0-0.
For the second straight night, the Sound Tigers found themselves behind by two goals in the first period. Eric Gryba fired a point shot 2:39 into the game that deflected off of Poulin's blocker and into the net for his first goal of the season to give Binghamton an early 1-0 lead. The Senators doubled their lead with 1:17 left in the second period when Schneider backhanded a rebound past Poulin for his first goal of the night.
Binghamton pushed its lead to three 2:50 into the middle frame when Derek Grant one-timed a shot from the slot through Poulin's legs. The Senators took a 4-0 lead with a power play goal midway through the period, as Andre Benoit gathered his own rebound off of a one-time shot with 11:24 left in the second period.
Poulin was then pulled in favor of Anders Nilsson after allowing four goals on 19 shots. Nilsson made two big saves on odd-man rushes soon after replacing Poulin, but the Senators struck again late in the period. Binghamton earned another odd-man rush after the Bridgeport defense was caught in the Senators zone, and Schneider fired a shot from the right circle through Nilsson's legs for his second goal of the night.
The Senators increased their lead to six on the power play, as Gryba grabbed a loose puck between the faceoff circle and beat Nilsson for his second goal of the night 3:01 into the third period. Brandon DeFazio got the Sound Tigers on the scoreboard with six minutes left in regulation, sending a feed from Jason Clark over Lehner's right shoulder for his sixth goal of the season.
The Sound Tigers return to action next Friday when they travel to Giant Center to face the Hershey Bears at 7:00 p.m.
