Bears' Offense Stifled Again in Setback to Phantoms
November 24, 2012 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Hershey Bears News Release
GLENS FALLS, N.Y. - Tyler Brown broke a 1-1 tie with a second-period goal, and the Adirondack Phantoms kept the HERSHEY BEARS power play from clicking as the hosts held on for a 3-1 win on Saturday night at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
The BEARS struck first just 6:30 into the game to take a 1-0 lead. On a quick entry into the Phantoms zone, T.J. Syner left a soft drop pass for Zach Hamill at the top of the right circle. Hamill let fly with a slap shot that skimmed the ice and beat Adirondack netminder Scott Munroe between the pads.
Each team earned power-play chances after the BEARS forged ahead, but neither could capitalize. The Phantoms then forced a turnover deep in their own end, and broke out with a three-on-two rush led by Brayden Schenn. The forward drew a BEARS defender to him, and then made a pass to his left for a driving Tye McGinn who had a tap-in to beat HERSHEY goaltender Dany Sabourin at 16:48.
The Phantoms pressured in the second period, and earned the go-ahead goal at 14:03 when Brown deposited the rebound of a point shot from Danny Syvret, putting the Phantoms ahead 2-1.
The BEARS earned four consecutive power plays between the later portion of the second period and early in the third, but the Phantoms penalty kill stopped them all. Sean Couturier hit the empty net with 25 seconds left in regulation to give the Phantoms the win.
Sabourin made 27 saves on 29 shots in a strong game but fell to 2-4-0 on the season. Munroe improved to 6-4-0 with 23 saves. The BEARS finished 0-for-7 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.
The BEARS return home to host the Toronto Marlies tomorrow, November 25 with faceoff at 5:00 PM. The first 3,000 fans will receive a gift card to the Turkey Hill Experience. Tomorrow is also Breast Cancer Awareness Night, with many events taking place for charity throughout the evening. The BEARS will be wearing special breast cancer awareness jerseys that will be auctioned off after the game on the ice, with a portion of the proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.
Tickets for this game and all HERSHEY BEARS home games are on sale at the GIANT Center box office, by calling (717) 508-BEAR, or online at TicketMaster.com.
