August 27, 2009 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release
The Senators improbable journey back to .500 continued in New Hampshire on Thursday where they completed a three-game sweep of the Fisher Cats with a 4-2 win. Brad Meyers combined with Cory VanAllen and Drew Storen to strike out nine batters while allowing just two runs which earned Meyers his fourth win for the Senators. The Sens are a perfect 7-0 in games in which Meyers starts.
Trailing 2-0 into the sixth inning the Sens broke through with four runs. They had four consecutive run scoring at bats beginning with a one-out single off the bat of Michael Daniel scoring Freddie Bynum. Joel Guzman then drove in Jemel Spearman with a 30-foot ground out. Bill Rhinehart followed with a run scoring double to give the Sens a 3-2 lead, then Chris Marrero singled in Rhinehart for the fourth run of the inning.
Meyers pitched a perfect bottom of the sixth, striking out the side, before turning the game over to Cory VanAllen. VanAllen retired all six batters he faced including three straight strikeouts. Storen walked the lead off batter in the ninth, but retired the final three earning his seventh save with the Sens. Daniel made a great catch in right field to end the game on a ball hit by Brian Jeroloman.
The Senators fell to New Hampshire 2-1 on June 1st at Metro Bank Park, but since then, the Sens own the best record in the Eastern League. They are now 51-31 since June 2nd and are now 64-65 on the season.
The Senators return home Friday night to begin their final homestand of the regular season against the Northern Division leading Connecticut Defenders. LH Matt Chico takes the hill for the Sens on Friday night. Game time Friday at Metro Bank Park is 7:00pm.
