
Alvarez Goes Yard Twice In 9-4 Win For Altoona

ALTOONA, PA - In his final game at Blair County Ballpark for the 2009 season Curve 3B Pedro Alvarez put on a show blasting two home runs to lead Altoona over the Trenton Thunder (AA-New York Yankees) 9-4 to complete a three game sweep and win their season-high fifth game in a row Thursday night.
After falling behind 3-1 early on the Curve tied the score in the third inning on Alvarez's first home run of the night, a two-run blast off of Trenton starter Lance Pendleton. After the Thunder took a 4-3 lead in the sixth it was Alvarez again tying the score with his second home run, this time a solo shot to start a four run seventh inning that blew the game open for the Curve. Steve Lerud slapped a two-run single and Jeff Corsaletti drove in the final run of the seventh to put the Curve ahead for good 7-4.
Alvarez finished the night 3-for-5 with two home runs, three RBIs, and three runs scored giving him a season total of 26 home runs (12 with Altoona, 14 with Lynchburg). Thursday marks the first time Alvarez has hit multiple home runs at the Double-A level, his last multiple home run game came on 6/16 with the Lynchburg Hillcats (A-Advanced). Jonel Pacheco had a great night at the plate going 3-for-4 with three doubles and an RBI. Corsaletti also finished with three hits for Altoona going 3-for-4 while Lerud and Jason Delaney each went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Yoslan Herrera (11-1) picked up his 11th win of the season in relief of Donnie Veal who was in a rehab start for Pittsburgh. Herrera tossed 5.0 innings allowing three runs on five hits with four strikeouts. New Curve closer Ramon Aguero picked up his fourth save in as many tries as the flame throwing right hander threw the final 2.0 innings allowing no hits and striking out one.
The Curve (58-73) now hit the road for a four-game weekend series at Erie when they take on the Erie SeaWolves (AA-Detroit Tigers) at Jerry Uht Park. The series opener is set to begin at 7:05 p.m. Friday with radio coverage beginning at 6:50 p.m. on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Altoona Curve Radio Network with the Marzoni's In-the-Zone Pre-Game Show.

-The Curve's longest winning streak since 2007, six games from 5/30-6/5/07
-Yoslan Herrera now has 23 wins and is just one shy of third all-time in Curve history
