New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Manchester, NH- Scott Campbell went 2-for-4 with a single, double, stolen base and a run scored, and Randy Boone tied a club season high by extending his scoreless-innings stretch to 21.2 innings, but the Harrisburg Senators successfully erased a 2-0 deficit to post a 4-2 victory before a crowd of 6,281 on Thursday night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.
The Fisher Cats (58-72) went in front, 1-0, in the bottom of the second inning against Brad Meyers when Darin Mastroianni (1-for-4, 2B, R) blooped a double to right, moved to third on a ground out and scored when Bryan Kervin (1-for-2, RBI) hit an infield RBI single that bounced off the third-base bag.
New Hampshire upped the lead to 2-0 in the home half of the third after Brad Emaus (1-for-4, RBI) laced a run-scoring single to right, driving in Cambpell, who had doubled to the wall in left.
Harrisburg (64-65), which did not post its first hit until there were two outs in the fifth inning, broke out against Boone in the top of the sixth, snapping the right-hander's shutout-innings string that dated back to August 9, matching Fabio Castro (4/10-25) for the longest scoreless stretch by a Fisher Cats pitcher in 2009.
Freddie Bynum (1-for-5, R), Jemel Spearman (2-for-4, R) and Michael Daniel (1-for-2, RBI, R, BB, SB, SAC) all delivered one-out singles, with Daniel driving in Bynum, trimming the Fisher Cats' lead to 2-1. Joel Guzman (0-for-3, RBI, IW) tied the game with a ground out to Boone, plating Spearman, and Bill Rhinehart (1-for-3, 2B, BB, RBI, R) put the Senators in front, 3-2, with a double to left that allowed Daniel to score. It became a four-run frame when Chris Marrero (1-for-4, RBI) hammered a single to left, bringing Rhinehart home and building a 4-2 lead.
Meyers (4-0) retired 11 of the last 12 batters he faced to claim the victory, capping his night by striking out the side in the sixth. The right-hander fanned five in his six innings of work, allowing two runs on six hits and a walk.
Cory VanAllen struck out three in his two perfect innings of relief, and Drew Storen worked around a lead-off walk to David Cooper (0-for-2, 2 BB) in the ninth to record his seventh save in seven opportunities.
Boone (9-8) suffered his third loss in four August decisions after yielding four runs on six hits in six frames. The righty notched three strikeouts and walked three.
The Senators swept the three-game series and defeated the Fisher Cats for the sixth consecutive time, winning the season series, 6-1.
