Harrisburg Senators News Release
Saturday night in New Hampshire the Senators had two runners thrown out at home in a 2-1 loss to the Fisher Cats. Ryan Perry, making his first career start for the Senators, pitched three scoreless innings in his first game becoming a converted starter. The loss was just the fourth this year for the Senators when they lead a game into the seventh inning.
In the second inning, Jimmy Van Ostrand tried to score on a single to right off the bat of Justin Bloxom but the throw by Kenen Bailli beat Van Ostrand and he was tagged out. Meanwhile, Perry allowed a two-out walk in the first, a one-out double in the second and then pitched a perfect third in his first outing.
The game was scoreless into the sixth when the Sens broke through for the first time. Eury Perez singled, stole second and scored on an rbi single by Jeff Kobernus to give Harrisburg a 1-0 lead. Jesus Valdez was hit with a pitch to put runners on first and second. With Tim Pahuta at the plate, Jeff Kobernus took off to steal third and was in easily, but Valdez also trying to steal second was thrown out easily. Pahuta grounded out and Van Ostrand followed with a fly out to the left to end the threat.
New Hampshire tied the game in the seventh off Ryan Tatusko, but failed to capitalize on a bases loaded no-outs situation against Zech Zinicola.
With the game tied 1-1 into the bottom of the eighth, New Hampshire plated a run after a strikeout-wild pitch allowed the eventual winning run to move to third with one out. Brian Van Kirk singled in Mark Sobolewski with what turned out to be the game winner, giving the Fisher Cats a 2-1 lead.
The Senators rallied in the ninth but fell just short. Pahuta reached on an error. Van Ostrand grounded out to third, but Pahuta moved to second. Sean Nicol was then summoned to run for Pahuta. Zach Walters drove a ball over the head of the Fisher Cats left fielder Van Kirk, but Nicol breaking late was thrown out at home preserving the lead. Walters moved to third with two outs. After Justin Bloxom walked, Kris Watts struck out to end the game. Stephen Marek earned the win for New Hampshire while Sam Dyson notched the save working the scoreless ninth.
Harrisburg falls to 37-36 while New Hampshire improves to 27-45.
The four-game series continues on Sunday afternoon with a 1:35 p.m contest. The game can be heard on 1460am The Ticket, on the Internet through the Senators website and on iHeart Radio, which is available on all mobile devices.
