ERIE, PA - The Erie SeaWolves tagged Greg Peavey for ten hits and defeated the Binghamton Mets 5-3 Saturday night at Jerry Uht Park. Niuman Romero and Nick Castellanos led the charge with two RBI's each to snap Binghamton's three-game winning streak.

The B-Mets drew first blood in the game in the third by using Pedro Zapata's speed. The left fielder began his trip around the bases with a one-out single to center against Erie starter Patrick Cooper. He stole second base, moved to third when catcher James McCann's throw sailed into center and scored on a wild pitch.

B-Mets starter Greg Peavey cruised through the first three innings. After walking leadoff hitter Jamie Johnson to kick things off, the righty retired ten straight. The stretch included five straight strikeouts, matching Peavey's season-high for one game.

The streak came to an abrupt end in the fourth. With one out Nick Castellanos tied the game with a solo home run. Rawley Bishop followed with a single and James McCann gave the SeaWolves took the lead for good by pounding an RBI double off the left field wall.

Erie added to their advantage in the fifth. With runners at first and second, Romero rolled a run-scoring single through the hole on the right side. Nick Castellanos added on with an RBI single to right.

Binghamton scratched back for another run in the sixth. Jefry Marte reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to third when Eric Campbell executed a hit-and-run with a single to right. Wilmer Flores drove him in with a sac fly to right.

It would be the end of Cooper's night. Kenny Faulk entered and struck out Dustin Martin to end the inning. Faulk returned for the seventh and posted a scoreless frame.

After a scoreless sixth inning, Peavey returned for the seventh. The righty got the first out, but surrendered a single to Jamie Johnson and gave up an RBI double to Romero, giving Erie a 5-2 lead and ending his night. Brad Holt replaced Peavey and immediately allowed Romero to steal third. The righty escaped unharmed when Romero was doubled off third after Castellanos lined out to Wilfredo Tovar at short.

Binghamton fought back with one more run in the eighth. Havens chased Faulk from the game with a leadoff single to center. Tyler Stohr entered and gave up a run-scoring single to Campbell, his fourth straight game with at least one RBI.

It was as close as the B-Mets would get. Stohr retired the next two B-Mets, fanning Dustin Martin to end the inning. Bruce Rondon took the mound for the ninth and collected his second save. He hit Tovar to start the frame, but induced Juan Centeno to bounce into a double play and got Pedro Zapata to fly out to end the game.

Peavey (3-4) allowed five runs on ten hits over 6.1 innings in the losing effort, extending his winless streak to five games. Cooper (2-0) gave up two runs while surrendering six hits in 5.2 innings of work to collect the win.

The B-Mets (34-38) continue their four-game set against the SeaWolves Sunday afternoon at 1:35 PM. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pre-game show begins at 1:20 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
